KUALA LUMPUR – Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) executive director for project management Datuk Kamarulzaman Mat Salleh has been appointed as the new Kuala Lumpur mayor, effective April 17.

Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Mohd Zuki Ali said the appointment was to replace Datuk Seri Mahadi Che Ngah, under subsection 4(2) of the Federal Capital Act 1960 (Act 190).

“I believe that with his experience, he can further strengthen the governance and functions of local authorities implemented by DBKL and continue to benefit the people and the government,” he said in a statement tonight.

Kamarulzaman, 59, who graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Surveying (Property Management) from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia began his career at DBKL in 1991 and has 32 years of experience in city management and Kuala Lumpur City planning policies.

Zuki also expressed his appreciation and thanks to Mahadi who retired on March 31. – Bernama, April 13, 2023
